The chamberstick is in wonderful vintage condition for antique enamelware, with minimal rust or chips. Enamelware is made from an old process of coating metal with porcelain, which became popular in the 1800s. By the late 1870s, a new form of enamel ware was developed, called "granite ware." Graniteware was designed with decorative patterns resembling granite, ranging from mottled, speckled, spatters or swirls. Early granite ware included patterns in turquoise blue with white and green. An authentic Japanese Meiji period brass vase, made when Japan produced high-quality decorative metalwork for both domestic use and the Western export market. The vase is of square baluster form, rising from a square foot through a waisted body to a flared neck. Each face is decorated with floral panels, likely incorporating peony and chrysanthemum motifs, traditionally associated with wealth, longevity and renewal. These are interspersed with symbolic elements, executed with confident rather than shallow surface decoration.
The sides feature raised decorative bosses, a recognised design feature on late 19th-century Japanese brass and bronze wares intended for export. The overall form is well-proportioned and deliberately architectural, reflecting the influence of Chinese antiquity forms reinterpreted through Japanese craftsmanship.
The base bears a stylised seal-script mark, typical of Meiji-period Japanese export metalwork. Such marks were decorative rather than identifying, designed to evoke earlier seal inscriptions rather than denote a specific maker. The soft wear, oxidation within the recesses, and surrounding patina are all consistent with genuine age.
The brass retains a rich, untouched patina, showing natural surface wear and colour variation developed over time. It has not been aggressively cleaned or polished, which significantly enhances its authenticity and appeal to collectors.
This is a genuine late 19th-century Japanese decorative object, suitable for collectors of Asian art, Meiji metalwork or period interiors.

An authentic Victorian / Edwardian table lamp, constructed using two real animal hooves, most likely deer, arranged symmetrically around a central white metal stem. Hoof lamps of this type were produced in limited numbers during the late 19th and early 20th centuries and were intended for use in gentlemen’s studies, hunting lodges and country houses. While three-hoof examples are more commonly encountered, two-hoof lamps are notably scarcer, making this a desirable and slightly unusual survivor.
The lamp is mounted on a decorative turned solid wood base and fitted with a decorative pressed white metal collar, displaying foliate detailing typical of the Art Nouveau period. The piece has been converted to electricity at some point in its life, which is entirely typical and expected for lamps of this age. It has been fitted in the past with a Bakelite in-line switch.
This is a genuine period object, not a later reproduction and remains a bold and characterful decorative piece over a century after it was made.

For sale, six pieces of mid century Crown Devon crockery including a teapot, cup, jug and three plates (two different sizes, see dimensions below). Crown Devon makers mark on base of each item. Multicoloured floral pattern. The Crown Devon story started in the early 1870s when Simon Fielding put his life savings into the Railway Works in Sutherland Street, Stoke-on-Trent. But within a few years, the bailiffs came in and it was Simon's son Abraham, who stepped in to save the company. Majolica ware was in fashion and Abraham started to produce it in abundance. S. Fielding & Co. flourished and expanded, introducing a vast range of new products. The Crown Devon backstamp appeared on a number of patterns from the 1880s although it was 1912 before the Railway Works was renamed The Devon Pottery. The name Crown Devon was synonymous with quality but its wares also brought a bit of fun to thousands of people. Many items, produced for a few pence in the 20’s and 30’s, are now worth much more than people think!
