The barley twist motif, inspired by the twisting stalks of barley, gained popularity in English furniture and decor during the 17th century and experienced a revival in the Victorian era. This intricate design not only showcases the artisan's skill but also adds a dynamic visual appeal, making it a distinctive feature in period pieces. This particular candlestick, originating from the Arts and Crafts movement, reflects the period's emphasis on traditional craftsmanship and quality materials. The candlestick stands on a solid circular base, ensuring stability, and features a wonderful original patina that has developed over the decades, enhancing its antique charm. Barley twist designs were often used in furniture, staircases, and candlesticks, where the open twist variation—seen in this piece—adds a sense of lightness and elegance. This candlestick is not just a functional item but also a piece of history, embodying the rich decorative traditions of the Victorian era. Perfect for collectors and enthusiasts, it serves as a beautiful reminder of the past and a testament to timeless design.

For sale, a mid century, fluted French enamelware chamberstick. White with decorative blue edging and finger loop. The insert for the candle was designed for a taper candle. The chamberstick is in wonderful vintage condition for antique enamelware, with minimal rust or chips. Enamelware is made from an old process of coating metal with porcelain, which became popular in the 1800s. By the late 1870s, a new form of enamel ware was developed, called "granite ware." Graniteware was designed with decorative patterns resembling granite, ranging from mottled, speckled, spatters or swirls. Early granite ware included patterns in turquoise blue with white and green. Both enamel and granite ware were used in the production of early kitchen utility ware.
