Heavy cast alloy Scottish Terriers used to advertise and promote Buchanan’s Black and White Scotch whisky. Cast from a heavy white metal alloy, these restored standalone ‘Scottie Dog’ figures showcase good casting detail. Such well-preserved individual pieces are rare, making them a prized addition for collectors of breweriana, vintage advertising memorabilia, canine sculptures or whisky-related artefacts.
Buchanan's whisky has a rich history dating back to 1884, when James Buchanan, a Scottish businessman, founded his whisky company in London. Buchanan was a master blender who wanted to create a smooth, accessible whisky for the English market, and he quickly gained a reputation for quality. One of his earliest blends, Buchanan’s Blend, became so popular that it was chosen as the official whisky supplier for the House of Commons in 1898, a connection that inspired the Black & White label, featuring the iconic black and white dogs we have for sale.
Scottish Terriers or ‘Scottie Dogs’ are small, sturdy dogs originally bred in Scotland. They’re known for their distinctive appearance, short legs, a compact body and a wiry coat that comes in black, brindle, or wheaten colors. They can have a distinctive beard and bushy eyebrows, giving them a dignified, almost aristocratic look.
