A pair of highly decorative vintage hand carved folk art figures by renowned Canadian artist Berthier Beauregard. Carved as condiment shakers, these rustic, primitive and grotesque figures represent an old farmer and his wife. Complete with original hand carved wooden stoppers in base.
Berthier Beauregard was a Canadian folk artist from Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Quebec, active during the mid-20th century. He specialised in wood carvings, embracing the flat-plane tradition characteristic of his region. Beauregard's repertoire was diverse, encompassing carvings of people, birds and animals. Early in his career, he occasionally added colour to his pieces. His works are typically signed with a chisel on the side of the base, as is the case with these two figures.
