For sale, a superb large vintage hand carved Kava bowl or fruit bowl. This bowl is a unique hand made piece of Oceanic/ethnographic history and shows signs of past use. A lovely and tactile, antique or vintage primitive hardwood Kava bowl from the Samoan region. Stands on four feet. Would make a fantastic centrepiece for a table or fruit bowl. Kava bowls would be used at traditional 'ava (kava) ceremonies in Samoa. They are used for mixing a sedative drink made from the roots of the kava pepper plant, which is crushed to a powder and then mixed with water.

Condition
Used condition. No sign of repair or restoration. Replacement waxed string, which is untested so I do not advise hanging the bowl up using this string! One leg has a superficial and cosmetic surface split. IMPORTANT NOTE - DOES NOT INCLUDE FRUIT SHOWN IN PHOTOGRAPH, FOR ILLUSTRATIVE PURPOSES ONLY. Usual patination typical of a functional antique hand carved hardwood bowl. Stands very uneven on feet but not really noticeable. Please carefully check all the photos for close up details as they form an integral part of the description. All of our items are antique, vintage or used so will show signs of wear and imperfections commensurate with a pre loved item of that age.
