Looks like the top has been refinished at some time based on lack of scratches and staining etc. Coffin stools were originally intended to be used as a small seat or coffin stand in the family home at sad times when friends and relatives gather, such as a funeral, hence the name.

Overall good used condition. No sign of repair or wood splitting. Looks like the top has been refinished. Solid and stable construction.
